What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

Short answer: Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring a website and its content so AI systems — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, and Google AI Overviews — can find, understand, trust, and cite it. Traditional SEO earns a ranked link; GEO earns a mention inside the AI's answer.

Why GEO exists now

For two decades, winning search meant ranking in a list of blue links. That is changing.
